Responsible by design

Strong governance and alignment underpin everything we do. Our approach to ESG supports better outcomes for investors and businesses alike. Actionable initiatives, including cost variable cost of finance linked to diversity objectives and sustainability-linked covenants, ensures we drive real benefit.

Three areas of impact

We concentrate on three ESG themes where our capital can create tangible change.

Diversity and Inclusion

We encourage mixed-gender boards and management teams. More than 90 per cent of portfolio companies now have at least one female board member and a third have female equity ownership. The cost of financing improves when these objectives are met.

Decarbonisation

We invest in businesses contributing to the UK’s energy transition, from cleaner power supply to more efficient industrial processes.

Responsible Conduct

We support ethical operations and fair treatment of employees, with ESG covenants written directly into our loan agreements.

Incentives for change

We were early adopters of ESG covenants in loan documentation. These include margin ratchets to reduce the cost of financing as investee companies achieve agreed ESG objectives. This gives management a direct incentive to act and allows investors to see measurable progress.

Industry Commitments

Shard Credit Partners is a signatory to the UN Principles for Responsible Investment and the Investing in Women Code. These commitments align us with international standards while signalling to borrowers and investors alike that ESG is fundamental to our strategy.
